loose thread

Pull one and the whole trend unravels.

The small print

Privacy

The short version: we collect as little as possible and never sell it.

The newsletter

If you sign up, we store your email address with our newsletter provider, Buttondown, only to send you the briefing. You'll get a confirmation email first. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.

Our lawful basis under UK GDPR is your consent, which you can withdraw whenever you like.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics to see which pages and stories people read, only if you say yes in the cookie banner. Until then, no analytics script loads and nothing is sent to Google. If you agree, Google sets cookies (such as _ga) and receives details like the pages you visit, your rough location and your device type. We ask Google to shorten your IP address.

You can change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. The only other cookies we use are the ones that keep you signed in, which the site needs to work.

Links to other sites

We link to publishers and retailers. Once you click through, their privacy policies apply. Affiliate links may let a retailer know a sale came from us; they don't tell us who you are.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete any data we hold about you. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
